Kyocera SGS Precision Tools (KSPT) has announced that Tomoaki Hirano will succeed Tom Haag as the company’s president, effective July 1, 2025. Hirano, who currently serves as executive vice president and chief strategy officer, will take over leadership from Haag, who is retiring after decades of dedicated service. This leadership transition comes after a well-structured succession planning process designed to ensure the continued success and growth of the company.
Tom Haag, who has been with SGS Tool Co. since 1984, has played a pivotal role in transforming the company from a family-run operation into a globally recognized leader in precision tooling. Under Haag’s leadership, SGS Tool Co. expanded significantly, growing its technical capabilities, operational performance, and market presence. After the acquisition of SGS Tool Co. by Kyocera Corp. in 2016, Haag continued to lead Kyocera SGS Precision Tools, overseeing the integration of both organizations and the company’s expansion into new markets.
“I am proud of what we’ve built and confident that Tomoaki Hirano’s leadership will take Kyocera SGS to new heights,” Haag said in his statement. Despite his retirement, Haag will continue to provide advisory support to the company during the leadership transition.
Hirano brings more than 25 years of experience within the Kyocera Group to his new role, including his recent tenure as KSPT’s executive vice president. Known for his expertise in strategic planning, cross-border leadership, and customer-focused innovation, Hirano has held various roles across Kyocera’s global operations, including stints in Japan, Germany, and North Carolina. His leadership experience, particularly in the industrial components sector, makes him well-equipped to guide KSPT into its next chapter.
“I’m excited to lead the company into its next phase, building on the strong foundation that Tom and the team have created,” Hirano said. “Kyocera SGS Precision Tools has an outstanding team and legacy, and I look forward to driving the company’s continued success.”
The leadership transition at Kyocera SGS Precision Tools marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey. As Hirano steps into the role of president, he will focus on continuing the company’s commitment to excellence in precision tooling while driving innovation and expanding its global footprint. With a collaborative succession planning process already in place, the company aims to maintain strategic continuity and stability for both its employees and customers.
