Velo3D Unveils Rapid Production Solutions for Additive Manufacturing!
Velo3D, a leading innovator in metal additive manufacturing (AM), has introduced its new Rapid Production Solutions…
At PMTS 2025, Kennametal is showcasing its TopSwiss MBS (Micro Boring Solid) tool series, designed for maximum accuracy in machining small, complex components used in industries such as defense, medical, transportation, fluid transfer, and small-parts machining. The TopSwiss MBS Medical Line (ML) inserts are engineered with a specialized coating and sharp cutting edges to provide optimized surface finishes and reduced tool pressure, making them ideal for precision and biocompatibility in medical-grade applications.
These inserts are perfectly suited for machining components like bone screws, tulip heads, dental implants, and surgical instruments. They are specifically designed to work with tough materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and cobalt chrome, commonly used in medical device manufacturing.
The TopSwiss MBS Medical Line inserts feature KCSM25S coating, which ensures a smooth, polished surface to reduce chip adhesion and enhance surface quality. Additionally, the inserts are designed with a specialized lead and relief angle, allowing them to withstand high tool pressures. The direct coolant delivery system, which delivers coolant directly to the cutting edge, helps reduce heat and improve chip control, ensuring high-performance machining.
For optimal performance, Kennametal recommends pairing the inserts with HP toolholders, which provide high precision and repeatability with a centerline tolerance of ±5 μm (±0.0002″). The HP toolholders are designed for ease of use, featuring a specialized lock nut that requires only hand tightening for most applications. For high-pressure coolant applications above 70 bar (1,000 psi), wrench tightening is required.
The TopSwiss MBS Medical Line inserts are an ideal solution for those seeking precision, efficiency, and biocompatibility in machining small, complex components in critical industries such as medical manufacturing.
