KBC Tools & Machinery Celebrates 60th Anniversary and Founder’s Day with Special Tribute to Karel Bass!

KBC Tools & Machinery has proudly marked its 60th anniversary and Founder’s Day on April 8, 2025, celebrating six decades of excellence in providing high-quality tools and machinery to machinists, manufacturers, and craftsmen across North America. This significant milestone honors the remarkable legacy of Karel Bass, the visionary founder behind the company’s enduring success.

As part of the celebration, clients visiting KBC showrooms and receiving shipments on the day were treated to Kit Kat bars, Karel Bass’s favorite treat, which has now become the official company candy. This sweet gesture pays tribute to Karel’s generosity and his love for sharing small joys with others.

Born in Prague in 1916, Karel Bass led an extraordinary life filled with resilience, innovation, and a firm belief in the American Dream. His journey spanned tumultuous historical events, including World War II and the Cold War, and saw him holding six nationalities throughout his lifetime. Karel’s curiosity and drive for knowledge were evident early on, mastering seven languages and collecting ancient Chinese art. His business venture began in 1959, selling surplus tools under GP Engineering Tools in England. By the early 1960s, he expanded his operations internationally, including to the Detroit area. His determination to succeed was further fueled by an encounter with a dishonest customer, which led him to establish Kabaco (now KBC Tools & Machinery) in 1964.

Relocating to Detroit with his family in 1968, Karel continued to build KBC on the principles of fair pricing, hard work, and offering customers freedom of choice, revolutionizing the industry with his innovative mail-order catalog. Karel remained deeply committed to both business and personal growth throughout his life, continuing to pursue education and maintain an active, energetic lifestyle even into his 80s.

From its humble beginnings, KBC Tools & Machinery has grown into a trusted industry leader, now operating across three Canadian and four U.S. locations. The company has built its success through decades of dedication from Karel’s team and the ongoing support of over 600 world-class tooling manufacturers.
