Junker Group has introduced a range of high-precision grinding and threading solutions designed specifically for the mechanical systems that power humanoid robots. As robots become more agile, lifelike, and capable of navigating complex environments, the need for flawless motion transmission has grown exponentially. Junker’s expertise directly supports this demand by enabling manufacturers to produce the critical components that make advanced robotic mobility possible.

Humanoid robots rely on an intricate network of actuators, joints and linkages to replicate the dynamic movements of the human body. At the center of this capability are transmission elements—precision-engineered parts that transfer energy from linear or rotary drives to robotic limbs. These components must deliver exceptional accuracy, minimal friction, and low noise levels to ensure smooth, natural motion, whether the robot is performing industrial tasks, assisting in healthcare, or operating in unstructured environments.

Junker’s grinding technologies are developed to meet the unique performance requirements of both linear drives and rotary drives, the two primary systems that power robotic locomotion. Linear drives such as ball screws and planetary roller assemblies are responsible for controlled, accurate movements in areas like elbows, knees, hips, ankles and gripping mechanisms. These actuators must deliver predictable displacement and repeatability, making surface quality and dimensional precision absolutely essential.

Rotary drives, meanwhile, support rotational motion in the robot’s joints, including shoulders, hips and wrists. Systems such as cycloidal gear drives, harmonic drives and planetary gear assemblies require ultra-high accuracy to minimize backlash, reduce vibration, and maintain efficiency. The grinding processes for these parts must achieve extremely tight tolerances and superior surface finishes so that each movement is both powerful and precise.

Junker’s machines are built to produce these demanding components with consistency and speed. Capabilities include the creation of both standard and custom thread profiles, the delivery of exceptionally smooth surfaces for quiet and efficient drive systems, and flexibility to accommodate various component sizes and geometries. The systems are engineered for stable, high-volume production, helping manufacturers scale their output without sacrificing quality.

According to Joachim Himmelsbach, CTO and Managing Director of the Junker Group, the company’s technologies reflect its long-standing dedication to supporting next-generation automation. He emphasized that as robotics continues to reshape industries—from manufacturing and logistics to personal assistance—the need for highly refined mechanical components will only increase. Junker aims to remain at the forefront by providing precision grinding solutions that empower robotics engineers to push the boundaries of motion control and reliability.

Through its specialized grinding and threading systems, Junker Group is helping manufacturers produce the critical mechanical elements that enable humanoid robots to move more fluidly, respond more intelligently, and operate with unprecedented efficiency.
