Jindal Stainless, India’s leading stainless steel producer, has taken a landmark step in infrastructure support with the inauguration of its first-ever fabrication facility dedicated to stainless steel bridge components. Operated through its wholly owned arm, Jindal Stainless Steelway Limited (JSSL), the 400,000-square-foot plant is located in Washivali, Patalganga, near Mumbai, and is poised to redefine how high-performance stainless steel is utilized in national infrastructure projects.
The facility, established with an initial investment of approximately ₹125 crore, marks a strategic expansion from raw material production into complete fabrication solutions. Its primary focus will be on manufacturing critical bridge parts, including girders, arches, handrails, and load-bearing structural elements, providing developers with integrated, ready-to-install components. The plant has an initial annual production target of 4,000 tonnes, with plans to scale up to 18,000 tonnes by FY26-27 in line with the rising demand for durable, low-maintenance, and eco-friendly infrastructure solutions.
The inauguration, led by Tarun Khulbe, CEO & CFO of Jindal Stainless, highlighted the company’s commitment to bridging the gap between material excellence and structural application. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, emphasized, “Bridges are vital links in the national economy — connecting communities, trade routes, and regions. This facility reflects our approach to delivering complete solutions to partners by offering world-class fabrication under one roof, reinforcing quality, reliability, and long-term performance.”
Beyond production capacity, the Mumbai plant is expected to create over 250 direct jobs and positively impact more than 150 families indirectly. The facility will also function as a talent hub, focusing on skill development in fabrication processes and preparing India’s workforce to meet the technical demands of modern infrastructure projects.
The decision to specialize in stainless steel fabrication stems from the material’s inherent advantages over conventional carbon steel. Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant, durable, and low-maintenance, offering a service life that can exceed a century — a feature that is critical for bridges and other public infrastructure. By providing end-to-end fabrication services, Jindal Stainless enables seamless integration of high-grade materials with precision-engineered structural components, reducing construction timelines and improving overall project quality.
The Mumbai facility also aligns with the company’s broader vision of sustainable manufacturing. Plans are underway to integrate solar energy systems in the next phase, reinforcing Jindal Stainless’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations. Additionally, future expansions may include similar fabrication units in other strategic locations across India, enhancing regional accessibility and strengthening the supply chain for critical infrastructure components.
Founded in 1970, Jindal Stainless has grown into India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, with a global footprint spanning 12 countries and production and processing facilities in India, Indonesia, and Spain. With FY25 revenues of ₹40,182 crore (USD 4.75 billion) and plans to expand melt capacity to 4.2 million tonnes by FY27, the company continues to combine material innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable practices to support India’s infrastructure growth.
This new fabrication plant represents a significant leap forward in enabling high-quality, long-lasting infrastructure development, allowing Jindal Stainless to deliver both premium materials and fully fabricated solutions, thereby setting new benchmarks for India’s construction and infrastructure industry.
