Microchip Technology has revealed that it intends to spend a total of $880 million over the next few years in order to increase the amount of silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon (Si) that can be manufactured at its manufacturing site in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A crucial component of the development is to build and improve the company’s 50-acre, 580,000-square-foot Colorado Springs site for enhanced SiC production for use in automotive/E-Mobility, grid infrastructure, green energy, and aerospace and defence applications.
In collaboration with the Colorado Springs Chamber & Economic Development Corporation, the City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County announce that Microchip has been approved for roughly $47M in state and municipal incentives for the expansion.
