Indra and AXISCADES Forge Strategic Partnership to Manufacture Defense Systems in India!

In a significant move to bolster India’s defense manufacturing capabilities, Spanish defense giant Indra has announced a strategic partnership with Indian technology provider AXISCADES. The agreement, signed during the prestigious Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, aims to enhance India’s aerospace and defense sector by localizing the production of key defense equipment. The deal was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed by Indra CEO José Vicente de los Mozos and AXISCADES Chairman Dr. Sampath Ravinarayanan, with Indra Chairman Angel Escribano and AXISCADES CEO Alfonso Martínez also attending the ceremony.

This partnership marks a major step towards strengthening India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, as AXISCADES will now be responsible for the production of a variety of advanced defense products designed by Indra. Among the key products covered by this collaboration are antennas for Tactical Air Navigation Systems (TACAN), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), which is crucial for providing aircraft with vital flight data, and countermeasure systems designed to protect aircraft from threats like MANPADS (Man-Portable Air Defense Systems).

The strategic collaboration is aimed at leveraging AXISCADES’ robust design, development, production, and supply chain capabilities within India, offering Indra a reliable manufacturing base for defense products and services. The partnership not only aims to enhance the supply chain but also includes plans to jointly develop new products that cater to both domestic and international markets. These new offerings could either adapt Indra’s existing defense solutions or be entirely new designs tailored to meet the specific needs of defense clients.

The collaboration is expected to provide a significant boost to Indra’s position in the global aerospace and defense market while enhancing the capabilities of Indian defense manufacturers. Indra, which has had a long-standing presence in India, has been actively involved in supporting the modernization of the country’s Armed Forces and civil air traffic management systems. This new partnership will further strengthen that commitment by enabling the local production of high-tech defense systems in India, providing both economic and strategic benefits.

Additionally, the two companies are looking to expand their cooperation into other key areas of defense technology. Future collaboration is under consideration in sectors such as Maritime Patrol Aircraft Airborne Solutions and other defense programs with the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), including advanced systems for Combat Aircraft, Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance, and Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft.

Indra, a leading Spanish multinational in the defense, air traffic management, and space technology industries, is well-established as one of the foremost global players in defense and digital transformation. The company has been a trusted technology partner for major European programs and projects, and its deep industry knowledge, cutting-edge innovation, and system integration capabilities have made it a key player in safeguarding and advancing technological systems worldwide.

With this partnership, both Indra and AXISCADES are poised to make significant contributions to India’s defense sector, driving industrial innovation and collaboration while simultaneously strengthening India’s position as a global defense manufacturing hub. This collaboration will also support India’s ambitions to become self-reliant in defense production, in line with the government’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’
