India has taken a significant leap forward in its semiconductor ambitions with the groundbreaking ceremony for the country’s first Gallium Nitride (GaN) chip manufacturing plant. The ceremony, held in Nava Raipur, was led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Eshwara Rao Nandam, Managing Director and CEO of Polymatech Electronics, the company spearheading the project.
Polymatech Electronics is investing ₹1,143 crore in the initial phase of the facility, with plans for a further ₹10,000 crore investment to drive long-term growth. The plant is projected to manufacture 10 billion semiconductor chips annually by 2030, including advanced 5-nanometer and 3-nanometer chips, positioning India as a competitive player in the global semiconductor market.
This facility will focus on producing semiconductor modules crucial for telecom infrastructure, satellite systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. These chips will power next-generation 5G and 6G networks, high-performance computing devices, defense-grade electronics, and advanced data processing systems.
Eshwara Rao Nandam, speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, highlighted the significance of the facility: “With this foundation stone, we are laying the cornerstone for India’s future in high-tech manufacturing. This plant will support the country’s ambitions to lead in the global electronics value chain.”
GaN is widely regarded as a breakthrough material in chip technology. Compared to traditional silicon-based chips, GaN semiconductors offer higher efficiency, faster operation, and greater durability. This marks a critical step for India, which has long been dependent on imports for such advanced components. By producing GaN chips domestically, the country aims to reduce import dependency and attract foreign investment into its electronics sector.
The new manufacturing facility is set to generate thousands of direct jobs and millions of indirect jobs. There is a particular focus on training local youth, especially from Bastar and other conflict-affected regions, to foster inclusive growth and skill development. This initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of creating sustainable, long-term employment opportunities in emerging sectors.
State officials highlighted the impressive efficiency in project execution. The land allocation for the facility in Sector 5 of Nava Raipur was completed in under 45 days, with lease registration finalized within 25 days, demonstrating the commitment of the Chhattisgarh government to fast-track high-impact investments.
Polymatech Electronics, with its forward-looking approach, is committed to delivering breakthrough electronic solutions. The company’s dedication to quality and performance continues to fuel its mission of advancing semiconductor technologies that can transform industries and improve lives.
This groundbreaking marks the beginning of a new era for India’s electronics sector, offering a sustainable, locally sourced solution to one of the most critical components in modern technology. The GaN chip manufacturing facility is set to make Chhattisgarh and India key players in the global semiconductor supply chain, with a long-term vision to drive technological innovation and economic growth.
Polymatech Electronics Limited is an advanced technology enterprise dedicated to delivering high-performance semiconductor technologies. The company focuses on innovation to empower industries and meet the evolving demands of its customers through reliable, state-of-the-art products.
