Hindustan Zinc has become the first Indian metals company to implement tele-remote operations in underground mining. This breakthrough allows operators to control loaders working underground from the surface, using an optical fiber backbone for seamless communication. This development has significantly enhanced operational efficiency, with a notable increase in shaft hoisting capacity at the Rampura Agucha mine by 1,500 tonnes per day. In addition to tele-remote operations, Hindustan Zinc has integrated advanced drilling technologies such as smoke-hours drilling, which allows production drilling to continue during shift changes. This advancement has resulted in an additional 22,000 tonnes of metal being produced annually. The company is also utilizing AI-driven predictive maintenance systems, which have already led to a 500-hour reduction in machine downtime across its mining and smelting operations. These systems predict when machinery requires maintenance, ensuring smoother operations and minimizing the risk of unexpected failures.
