In a landmark move aimed at shaping the future of Japan’s automotive software landscape, FPT, a global IT services and technology powerhouse, has entered into a strategic partnership with ATEC, a respected Japan-based automotive software engineering firm. This collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marks ATEC’s first international alliance, and positions both companies to co-develop cutting-edge automotive software solutions amid Japan’s rapidly evolving mobility ecosystem.
The alliance is designed to tackle two major challenges facing the industry: the growing demand for embedded software and the shortage of skilled professionals in automotive technology. By combining ATEC’s decades-long expertise in Japanese automotive engineering with FPT’s global software development capabilities, the partnership aims to deliver scalable, future-ready solutions with a focus on AUTOSAR frameworks and Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) for leading Japanese OEMs.
A key initiative under this alliance is the establishment of a new Offshore Development Center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This facility will act as a global engineering hub to expand capacity, accelerate project delivery, and enable seamless collaboration between Japanese and international teams. Plans are already underway to scale the center further in response to anticipated project volumes.
For ATEC, this collaboration unlocks access to global resources and development capabilities, enabling the company to meet increasing customer demands. For FPT, it secures a stronger foothold in Japan’s competitive automotive software market, tapping into ATEC’s robust client network and market experience.
“Japan’s automotive sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by AI and software-centric innovation,” said Do Van Khac, SEVP of FPT Software and CEO of FPT Japan. “Through this alliance, we’re aligning FPT’s global automotive expertise with ATEC’s deep local knowledge to fuel impactful growth and long-term collaboration.”
FPT brings over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, collaborating with major OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers. With 4,500+ professionals and 17 offices across Japan—backed by a global network of 15,000 offshore engineers—FPT is well-positioned to scale its impact. In 2024, the company earned over USD 500 million from its Japan operations, with ambitions to exceed USD 1 billion by 2027 and become one of Japan’s top 15 IT service providers.
Founded in 1988, ATEC specializes in software, electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering, with a long-standing focus on in-vehicle technologies. The company is certified by Vector Informatik as an Engineering Partner, recognized for its expertise in AUTOSAR-compliant development, legacy system upgrades, and custom software solutions.
As the automotive world pivots toward digital transformation, the FPT-ATEC alliance signals a bold step toward building a smarter, more connected mobility future—anchored in engineering excellence, cross-border collaboration, and a shared vision for innovation.
