Factory automation giant joins other industry leaders at the MTC

FANUC, a world leader in factory automation and robotics has joined the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry.

FANUC is one of the leading global manufacturers of factory automation, CNC systems and machining centres. The 60 year-old business has more than 20 million products installed in factories around the world.

The company's state-of-the-art UK headquarters is on Ansty Park, Coventry where it is a near neighbour of the MTC. Engineers from the two organisations are already working closely and FANUC has supplied a range of equipment to the MTC's Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre, also on Ansty Park.

The AMTC now has six FANUC vertical machining centres as well as seven robotic educational cells to help train the engineers of the future and expose them to the latest in factory technology.

Tom Bouchier, managing director of FANUC UK said, " The UK’s manufacturing landscape is evolving at a pace not seen for decades. This is facilitated by the productivity and efficiency benefits derived from the greater connectivity and interoperability offered by manufacturing technology. Both the MTC and AMTC have been at the forefront of developing the next generation of engineers. Given FANUC’s own commitment to fostering future engineering talent, we are delighted to be able to integrate our own state-of-the-art technology into their facilities.”

MTC chief executive Dr Clive Hickman said he was delighted to welcome FANUC to the MTC community.

“Robotics and automation are two of the MTC's key areas for developing the factories of the future. FANUC's iconic yellow robots can be seen in factories around the world, and the company shares the MTC's enthusiasm for innovation as well as an appreciation of the need to train people to fill the needs of advanced manufacturing for years to come,” he said.

The MTC was founded by the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and TWI Ltd. The MTC’s industrial members include some of the UK’s major global manufacturers.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
