Exide Introduces AGMi AGM Battery Range to Power India’s Premium and Technology-Intensive Passenger Vehicles!
Exide Industries Limited has expanded its automotive aftermarket portfolio with the launch of Exide AGMi, a new range of Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries developed specifically for modern passenger vehicles with high electrical and electronic demands. The introduction reflects the rapid evolution of vehicle technology in India, where premium features, advanced driver assistance systems, connected infotainment, and start-stop functionality are placing far greater stress on conventional battery systems.
The Exide AGMi range has been engineered to address these rising requirements by using AGM-VRLA (valve-regulated lead-acid) technology, which offers higher performance, enhanced safety, and improved durability compared to traditional flooded batteries. With a spill-proof design, the batteries are better suited for vehicles that experience frequent stop-start cycles, dense urban traffic conditions, and long-distance highway driving. Exide states that AGMi batteries deliver stronger cranking power, significantly higher vibration resistance, and up to three times longer cycle life, making them ideal for vehicles with continuous electrical loads.
Designed to cover a broad spectrum of premium applications, the AGMi range is available in DIN 50, DIN 60, DIN 70, DIN 80, and DIN 95 formats. This allows fitment across a wide range of vehicles, from high-end mass-market models to luxury and ultra-luxury passenger cars. With this rollout, Exide becomes the only Indian storage battery manufacturer to offer a complete AGM lineup in the domestic aftermarket, strengthening its position in high-performance automotive energy solutions.
According to Exide, AGM technology is increasingly becoming the preferred original equipment standard for premium vehicles, particularly those built on new electrical architectures. Exide AGMi has therefore been developed for vehicles that are originally equipped with AGM batteries, ensuring correct replacement, performance consistency, and protection of sensitive onboard electronics. This approach helps avoid the performance compromises and reliability risks that can arise when conventional batteries are used in AGM-specified vehicles.
Commenting on the launch, Rajeev Khandelwal, Executive Director – Trade at Exide Industries, highlighted that Exide AGMi brings advanced AGM technology to the Indian aftermarket at a time when demand for premium passenger vehicles is rising. He noted that growing global trade opportunities and the increasing presence of feature-rich vehicles in India make the timing of the launch particularly relevant. The company sees strong potential in the premium and technology-heavy vehicle segment, where reliable power delivery is critical to overall vehicle performance and customer satisfaction.
The AGMi range will initially be available through select aftermarket channel partners in India’s top 10 cities, ensuring controlled deployment and technical support during the early phase. Exide plans a phased expansion into additional markets as awareness and demand for AGM replacement batteries grow.
With more than 70 years of experience, Exide Industries has built one of India’s most trusted battery brands, supported by a wide manufacturing footprint and strong distribution network. The company produces and supplies lead-acid batteries ranging from 2.5Ah to 20,200Ah for automotive, power, telecom, infrastructure, UPS, railways, mining, and defence applications. It holds a leadership position in India and exports to over 60 countries across six continents.
The launch of Exide AGMi signals a strategic step in aligning the company’s aftermarket offerings with the future of mobility, where electrical reliability, safety, and long-term performance are becoming as critical as mechanical excellence.
