The Greek aluminum manufacturer ElvalHalcor SA has given SMS group final acceptance for the new four-stand high-performance hot strip mill at the Oinofyta location near Athens.
With the technologically advanced hot strip mill, aluminum strips in thicknesses between 1.8 and 12 millimeters and widths over 2.6 meters were successfully rolled during commissioning. ElvalHalcor was using the flexible system after just a few weeks to roll around 70 coils of excellent quality for a wide range of industrial applications in one production shift.
In a time characterized by the particular challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the specialists from ElvalHalcor and SMS performed special work without interruption during the commissioning of the system. Due to the increased use of digital communication channels, experts in Germany were also extensively involved in times of limited travel options.
Logically, the formal acceptance of the acceptance took place by signing the “Final Acceptance Certificate” as part of a virtual celebration between the two contractual partners. Michael Schäfer, responsible for aluminum rolling mills at SMS, and Lampros Varouchas, Managing Director of ElvalHalcor, confirmed: “The basis for success were excellent specialists on both sides who met the special challenges with close cooperation and great commitment. This has further strengthened our longstanding relationship of trust. “
