ELGi Enters Vacuum Technology Segment with New Assembly Line at Coimbatore Headquarters!
Elgi Equipments Limited has inaugurated a dedicated vacuum pump assembly line at its headquarters in Coimbatore, marking a significant expansion of its industrial portfolio into vacuum technology. The move builds on ELGi’s long-standing technology licensing partnership with DVP Vacuum Technology SpA, under which ELGi manufactures, assembles, tests, and markets DVP’s vacuum products for the Indian market.
The new assembly line represents a strategic extension of ELGi’s core compressed air business, enabling the company to offer a more comprehensive suite of industrial air and vacuum solutions. Vacuum technology is increasingly critical across a wide range of sectors—including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, electronics, packaging, and process industries—and complements ELGi’s existing capabilities in compressed air systems. By adding vacuum solutions to its portfolio, ELGi aims to address a broader set of customer needs while strengthening its position as a full-spectrum industrial solutions provider.
The Coimbatore facility has been designed and implemented in alignment with ELGi’s Total Quality Management (TQM) framework, a system that has earned the company global recognition, including the prestigious Deming Prize. The assembly line provides end-to-end control over quality, from component assembly to final testing, ensuring consistent performance and reliability. Vacuum products assembled at the facility will be offered with a two-year warranty, reinforcing ELGi’s confidence in manufacturing quality and after-sales support.
Commenting on the inauguration, Jairam Varadaraj, Managing Director of ELGi Equipments, said the new facility marks an important milestone in the company’s journey to build globally competitive industrial solutions from India. He noted that combining proven European vacuum technology from DVP with ELGi’s disciplined manufacturing systems and extensive service network positions the company strongly to serve both domestic and international markets.
From a market perspective, the expansion comes at a time when demand for vacuum pumps is steadily increasing worldwide. Anvar Jay Varadaraj, Chief Operating Officer, highlighted that growth in industries such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, packaging, and advanced manufacturing is driving sustained demand for reliable vacuum solutions. He added that the new assembly line strengthens ELGi’s role as a dependable global supplier while supporting the company’s long-term, sustainable growth ambitions.
The facility incorporates a range of advanced manufacturing practices, including automated and sensor-enabled assembly processes, comprehensive end-of-line testing, and ergonomically designed 360-degree swivel workstations. These features are intended to ensure consistent build quality, high operational reliability, and improved productivity, while also enhancing safety and comfort for assembly personnel.

With products manufactured closer to customers, the company can offer faster service turnaround, improved spare parts availability, and seamless support through its extensive pan-India service network staffed by trained engineers.
