In a strategic move to bolster India’s self-reliance in water infrastructure equipment, Electrosteel Castings Ltd has acquired Italy-based TIS Service SpA for ₹150 crore. The acquisition marks a significant step toward localizing the production of high-performance valve systems, which are currently heavily imported for India’s water sector.
Following the acquisition, TIS has been rebranded as TIS – An Electrosteel Enterprise, and plans are now underway to adapt its advanced flow control technologies for local manufacturing. Electrosteel aims to align this transition with the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, reinforcing its commitment to reducing import dependency and enhancing domestic capabilities.
“TIS brings with it deep expertise in valve technologies. While valves for water applications are still largely imported, our goal is to start manufacturing them in India,” said Sunil Katial, Whole-Time Director and CEO of Electrosteel Castings Ltd. He added that the company is exploring its upcoming Odisha facility as a potential hub for valve production. Despite some delays in land acquisition, the Odisha plant is projected to add 0.5 million tonnes of ductile iron pipe capacity, complementing the company’s existing units in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, which together have a capacity of 0.85 million tonnes.
The acquisition is expected to yield an annual revenue boost of at least €40 million and will position Electrosteel for global expansion in key regions such as Europe, Southeast Asia, West Asia, and Latin America. The company also sees growth potential in sectors like irrigation, desalination, and renewable energy through integrated pipeline and valve solutions.
“This acquisition is more than just product expansion—it’s about building a globally competitive ecosystem around water and fluid management,” said Madhav Kejriwal, Whole-Time Director at Electrosteel and President of TIS. The move will help Electrosteel offer comprehensive, end-to-end solutions to both domestic and international clients.
However, the company acknowledges a short-term slowdown in the domestic market, mainly due to delayed fund allocations under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Katial remains optimistic, viewing this as a temporary hurdle, with demand likely to bounce back in the near future.
Established in 1955, Electrosteel Castings Ltd is one of India’s foremost manufacturers of ductile iron pipes, fittings, and allied cast products, widely used in water supply, sewerage, and infrastructure projects. This acquisition reaffirms the company’s vision to drive innovation, localization, and global competitiveness in the essential infrastructure space.
