Cummins reveals US$1 billion manufacturing network investments

Cummins, a US conglomerate, is spending more than $1 billion in its engine manufacturing network in Indiana, North Carolina, and New York. As part of his Investing in America trip, President Biden will visit Cummins in Fridley, Minnesota.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to show President Biden the innovative work we are doing at our Fridley plant and the incredible Cummins employees who are doing it,” said Jennifer Rumsey, President and CEO of Cummins. “In just a few weeks, we will begin manufacturing the electrolyser, a critical piece of technology for green hydrogen production that will help decarbonize our economy and drive the clean energy transition.” The Biden Administration and Congress, through legislation such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, are propelling the US renewable energy economy forward and are crucial to our decarbonisation efforts.”

The previously stated $1 billion investment will upgrade those facilities to support the industry’s first fuel agnostic engine platforms, which will run on low carbon fuels such as natural gas, diesel and ultimately hydrogen, assisting in the decarbonization of the nation’s truck fleets today.

The historic investments included in those pieces of legislation were critical in our choice to manufacture products in the United States, creating more clean-tech jobs and favourably impacting our communities,” Rumsey added. “The production of electrolyzers in Minnesota, as well as investments in our Indiana, North Carolina, and New York facilities, reflect our dual path approach to advancing both engine-based and zero-emission solutions – an approach that is best for all of our stakeholders and our impact on the planet.” We can’t do it alone, and we appreciate the ongoing cooperation and collaboration with congressional leaders and the Biden Administration.”
