China Airlines Finalises Order for 10 Airbus A350-1000s to Strengthen Long-Haul Fleet

China Airlines, the flag carrier of Taiwan, has confirmed a firm order for 10 Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft, solidifying a commitment first announced in December 2024. This strategic move is part of the airline’s broader ambition to enhance its long-haul operations and strengthen its international growth trajectory.

The new aircraft will be deployed on major intercontinental routes to North America and Europe, complementing China Airlines’ existing fleet of 15 A350-900s. The A350-1000 and A350-900 share a high degree of operational commonality, ensuring a smooth integration into the fleet and driving improved operational efficiency.

A Leap in Passenger Comfort and Fuel Efficiency

“Our investment in the A350-1000 supports our international growth strategy and reflects our commitment to improving the travel experience for our passengers,” said Kao Shing-Hwang, Chairman of China Airlines. “We are confident that the A350-1000, with its superior range, fuel efficiency, and comfort, will play a key role in transforming our long-haul operations.”

The Airbus A350-1000 is the most advanced and fuel-efficient long-range aircraft in the world. Powered by state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, it can fly non-stop up to 18,000km, using 25% less fuel than previous-generation aircraft while producing a similar reduction in carbon emissions. The aircraft is designed to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) today, with Airbus targeting full 100% SAF capability by 2030.

Airbus Welcomes China Airlines to A350-1000 Operator Family

“We welcome China Airlines to our fast-growing family of A350-1000 operators,” said Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP Sales, Airbus Commercial Aircraft. “As an early adopter of the A350-900, China Airlines has played a pioneering role in embracing cutting-edge aviation technology. By choosing the A350-1000 Long Range Leader, the airline continues to elevate its fleet, bringing superior efficiency and comfort to the forefront of long-haul travel.”

To date, the A350 Family has received more than 1,360 orders from 60 customers, with over 640 aircraft currently in service across 38 airlines globally. Known for setting new benchmarks in passenger experience, operational performance, and environmental impact, the A350 is a cornerstone of Airbus’ next-generation fleet.

A Versatile Airbus Operator

In addition to the A350-900, China Airlines operates a range of Airbus aircraft, including 15 A321neo and 16 A330s, across its regional and long-haul network, connecting Asia-Pacific with Europe and North America.

This latest order marks a significant step in China Airlines’ fleet modernisation journey, positioning the carrier to meet future travel demand with greater efficiency, sustainability, and passenger appeal.
