Chevalier CNC Slant-Bed Lathe Automates Small-Part Production with Enhanced Efficiency!

Chevalier Machinery Inc. has introduced its high-precision FCL-130RP CNC lathe, designed to address the increasing demand for automated, high-speed turning solutions in small-part production. This machine optimizes floor space with a compact length of just 70.9″ (1802 mm), making it ideal for production lines with limited space. The FCL-130RP is equipped with a 30-degree slant bed that enhances rigid performance, optimal chip removal, and long-term machining stability, ensuring efficient and reliable operation in demanding environments.

The lathe integrates seamlessly with a two-axis gantry robot, which enables fully automated part handling. The robot’s ability to swap workpieces in just 5.5 seconds helps significantly reduce cycle times, contributing to improved productivity. With its parallel-type grippers, the robot performs simultaneous loading and unloading operations, making the machine even more efficient for high-volume production. Additionally, the FCL-130RP offers intuitive setup, requiring just three input values to handle diverse workpieces, which minimizes setup times and operator errors. The machine also includes an integrated workpiece counter for precise job tracking, enhancing overall production efficiency.

The FCL-130RP is versatile in handling a wide range of parts, with a maximum cutting diameter of 9.29″ (236 mm) and a cutting length of up to 9.17″ (233 mm). It can accommodate parts with diameters up to 3.15″ (80 mm) and lengths of up to 3.94″ (100 mm), as well as weights of up to 6.6 lbs (3 kg). This makes it suitable for industries like automotive, medical, and electronics, where precision and flexibility are critical.

The lathe is powered by a spindle motor with a range of 5/7.4 hp (3.7/5.5 kW) and can reach spindle speeds of up to 6,000 rpm, making it ideal for high-precision cutting applications. The machine also boasts a rapid indexing time of 0.25 seconds with its 8-tool hydraulic turret, allowing for quick tool changes and efficient machining. Additionally, the FCL-130RP utilizes roller-type linear guideways and 3.15″ (80-mm) diameter spindle bearings to provide smooth, accurate cutting at high speeds, ensuring minimal vibration and maximum precision during operation.

Standard features of the FCL-130RP include a 6″ hydraulic chuck, toolholders, soft and hard jaws, and a movable coolant tank. Optional accessories such as an automatic door, toolsetter, parts catcher, and oil-mist collector are also available, offering further enhancements to the lathe’s functionality and facilitating integration into a full production workflow.
