BorgWarner has announced an expansion of its partnership with a top Chinese automotive manufacturer through a new contract to supply dual inverter systems for next-generation hybrid vehicles. This development builds on a successful collaboration initiated in 2021 and underscores BorgWarner’s growing footprint in China’s rapidly evolving new energy vehicle (NEV) market. Production under the new agreement is slated to begin by the end of 2025.
“We’re proud to continue building on our relationship with this key customer,” stated Dr. Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and Head of its PowerDrive Systems division. “This agreement reflects a deepening commitment to advancing electrified mobility in China’s fast-moving new energy vehicle sector.”
At the core of this partnership is BorgWarner’s innovative dual inverter technology, which enables the simultaneous control of two electric motors through a single controller. This design not only delivers compact packaging and ease of integration but also reduces system size, weight, and ultimately, vehicle production costs.
Key features of the dual inverter system include:
BorgWarner continues to evolve its inverter systems with third- and fourth-generation models. The third-gen inverter integrates a high-performance chip for dual motor control and DC-DC conversion, along with flexible auxiliary high-voltage interfaces. The fourth-generation version takes a significant leap by incorporating a boost converter, further extending system adaptability across various hybrid vehicle architectures. An optional DC-DC converter module enhances this flexibility, making the solution ideal for the diversified demands of OEMs.
This latest project not only reinforces BorgWarner’s leadership in electrified powertrain systems but also strengthens its role in China’s aggressive push toward clean energy mobility. As hybrid and electric vehicles gain momentum globally, BorgWarner’s scalable and high-efficiency inverter technologies are set to play a vital role in enabling cost-effective, high-performance electrification solutions across the automotive industry.
