Armstrong World Industries Acquires A. Zahner Co., Expanding Architectural Metal Capabilities!

Armstrong World Industries Inc. (AWI), a leader in ceiling and wall system solutions, has announced the acquisition of A. Zahner Company, a Kansas City-based designer and fabricator of complex exterior architectural metal systems. This strategic move underscores AWI’s commitment to diversifying its offerings and strengthening its position in the architectural specialties market.

Founded in 1897, A. Zahner Co. is known for its expertise in creating intricate metal systems for large-scale architectural projects. With production facilities in Missouri and Texas and a workforce of approximately 160 employees, Zahner has built a reputation for delivering cutting-edge metal solutions for iconic buildings worldwide.

This acquisition is part of AWI’s ongoing strategy to enhance its portfolio and cater to a broader range of architectural needs. Since 2016, Armstrong has completed 12 acquisitions in the architectural specialties sector, each contributing to the company’s ability to offer innovative and tailored solutions for both interior and exterior spaces.

The integration of Zahner’s advanced exterior metal systems into AWI’s product lineup is expected to expand the company’s reach into the high-end architectural market. Zahner’s proprietary technologies and manufacturing expertise will complement Armstrong’s existing offerings, enabling seamless design solutions that bridge the gap between functionality and aesthetics.

With Zahner generating approximately $42 million in projected revenue for 2024, this acquisition is poised to significantly bolster AWI’s presence in the architectural design and construction industries. Zahner’s projects often involve collaborations with world-renowned architects, aligning with Armstrong’s vision of delivering premium, customizable solutions to clients globally.

AWI’s acquisition of A. Zahner Co. follows its 2023 acquisition of BOK Modern, LLC, another leader in the exterior architectural metal sector. These moves highlight Armstrong’s commitment to innovation, market leadership, and the ability to meet the evolving needs of architects and builders.

As the architectural landscape continues to evolve, Armstrong’s investment in Zahner reflects a forward-thinking approach to design and manufacturing, solidifying its role as a go-to partner for both interior and exterior architectural solutions. This acquisition not only strengthens AWI’s capabilities but also opens new opportunities for creative and complex design projects.
