Architectural Grille Transforms Material Handling with Kasto’s Automated Storage Solutions

Architectural Grille, a family-owned manufacturer of custom architectural metalwork, has significantly improved its material handling and storage efficiency by installing five automated storage systems from Kasto Inc, a subsidiary of Germany-based Kasto Maschinenbau.

Founded in 1945, Architectural Grille operates from its Brooklyn-based facility, producing a wide array of custom products including linear bar grilles, perforated ventilation panels, and decorative metal screens for both interior and exterior applications. The company works with a broad range of materials — from aluminum and stainless steel to brass and bronze — processed through CNC punching, laser profiling, waterjet cutting, and other fabrication techniques.

Faced with the challenge of storing a diverse inventory of sheet metal and long stock materials, Architectural Grille’s management sought a solution that would streamline operations, optimize space, and enhance operator safety. Their search led them to Kasto’s advanced storage systems, which the Giumenta family discovered at an industry trade show.

“Previously, our manual storage method took up significant space and limited workflow efficiency,” said Stephen Giumenta, Managing Director at Architectural Grille. “We knew we needed an automated approach to match the scale and complexity of our materials handling.”

Following a comprehensive assessment of the facility’s needs, Kasto recommended a combination of systems tailored to Architectural Grille’s requirements. The final installation includes:

  • Four KASTOecostore 3.0 tower systems — each 8 meters high with a compact footprint, designed to store metal sheets up to 1.5 x 4 meters.
  • One double-sided UNITOWER 2.0 system — engineered to accommodate long materials ranging from 1.8 to 6.4 meters.

This integrated setup has revolutionized the way materials are stored and retrieved on the factory floor, leading to faster turnaround times, safer handling, and more efficient use of space.

“With Kasto’s storage solutions, our logistics processes have significantly improved,” Giumenta added. “We’re seeing measurable gains in both productivity and safety — key drivers for our continued growth and customer satisfaction.”
