Airbus Appoints Jürgen Westermeier as New Regional Head for India and South Asia!

In a significant leadership transition, Airbus has appointed Jürgen Westermeier as the new President and Managing Director for India and South Asia, effective September 1, 2025. Westermeier will take over the reins from Rémi Maillard, who has been elevated to the role of Executive Vice-President Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology at Airbus.

Westermeier, who currently serves as Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer, brings with him a wealth of experience in global industrial operations and supply chain management. Since joining Airbus in 2020, he has led procurement across all business units—Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space, and Helicopters—streamlining processes and strengthening supplier partnerships. His leadership was instrumental in driving efficiency and integration across Airbus’ global procurement ecosystem.

In his new role, Westermeier will be responsible for overseeing Airbus’ diverse operations across India and the South Asia region, including aircraft sales, services, engineering, innovation, digitalization, and training initiatives. His mandate will also include strengthening Airbus’ long-standing commitment to the “Make in India” initiative, supporting strategic partnerships that contribute to the country’s growing aerospace and defence capabilities.

Airbus India plays a pivotal role in the company’s global operations. From manufacturing and engineering to system integration and R\&D, the company has built a strong ecosystem in India that supports both domestic and international markets. Airbus collaborates with a wide network of Indian suppliers, contributing significantly to India’s emergence as a key player in the global aerospace value chain.

Westermeier’s appointment signals Airbus’ continued focus on deepening its engagement in one of the world’s most promising aviation markets. With India poised for substantial growth in commercial aviation, defence modernization, and indigenous aerospace development, Westermeier’s leadership is expected to further enhance Airbus’ footprint and foster innovation-driven collaboration in the region.

A graduate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, Westermeier began his career with BMW in 1998 and brings over two decades of industrial and leadership experience to the role. His cross-functional expertise and strategic insight make him well-equipped to steer Airbus’ India and South Asia operations in this next phase of growth.

With this appointment, Airbus reiterates its commitment to India’s aerospace ambition—driving innovation, enabling local manufacturing, and supporting talent development across the country’s vibrant aviation ecosystem.
