The Advanced Manufacturing Expo is right around the corner—and it’s more than just booths and business…
ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation, a global leader in robotics and machine automation, is joining forces with Simpliforge Creations Pvt Ltd, an additive manufacturing solutions company, to propel 3D printing technologies into the Indian construction sector. This collaboration aims to accelerate the construction of structures in a faster, more sustainable, and safer manner, promising a transformative impact on the industrial, defense, commercial, and residential domains, particularly in disaster-prone areas requiring rapid rehabilitation and infrastructure restoration.
Subrata Karmakar, President of Robotics & Discrete Automation at ABB India, emphasized the importance of investing in technologies that enhance productivity and efficiency amid India’s infrastructure growth. The adoption of 3D printed construction, which streamlines operations, reduces supply chain costs, construction waste, and carbon footprints, is poised to revolutionize the industry. ABB is proud to partner with Simpliforge in developing cutting-edge solutions for 3D construction printing.
While conventional construction methods have largely relied on manual labor, ABB’s IRB6700 robots, equipped with advanced payload management, can automate construction tasks, seamlessly integrating with Simpliforge’s operations. This collaboration offers an end-to-end solution for the construction industry, complementing traditional building methods.
Simpliforge’s innovative approach, coupled with ABB’s technology, has led to the development of a groundbreaking robotic concrete 3D printer—the first in India and the largest in South Asia. With an extended print size-to-footprint ratio of up to 8.5 meters and exceptional adaptability to concrete and cementitious materials, this system ensures unparalleled accuracy, precision, and reproducibility, minimizing reworking and quality control costs. The printer’s robust design enables it to operate in challenging construction environments, further enhancing its suitability for 3D printed construction projects.
Dhruv Gandhi, CEO of Simpliforge, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration with ABB India, emphasizing the access to localized, reliable technology that enhances operational efficiency. Leveraging ABB’s hardware and software, Simpliforge has developed sophisticated 3D printing capabilities, enabling flexible manufacturing and design freedom in construction. The partnership has already achieved remarkable milestones, including India’s first robotic concrete 3D printer and the world’s first 3D-printed place of worship and India’s first 3D-printed bridge. Looking ahead, both companies are poised to continue innovating and driving progress in the construction sector.
