MAPEI Canada begins its Quebec factory expansion

MAPEI Inc., a member of the MAPEI Group and a maker of products for the construction industry in Canada since 1978, had an inauguration event to commemorate the completion of a new powder production and warehouse extension at its flagship plant in Laval, Quebec. “With the addition of the powders and admixtures lines, MAPEI Laval has become one of the largest and most technologically advanced plants in MAPEI’s North American network,” stated Marco Roma, General Manager, MAPEI Canada. “The new facility enables us to meet Northeastern Canada’s growing demand for construction materials, concrete admixtures, and cement grinding aids,” he added. The expanded capacity in Laval will enable more balanced production across Canada.

“By enhancing our ability to shift production accordingly for more localization between our plants in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia, we can reduce our carbon footprint with quicker deliveries and shorter distances for transporting supplies to construction sites, impacting all regions of the country,” Roma said. Maximising the use of locally sourced resources is one of the MAPEI pillars for increasing construction sustainability. It is part of the mindset that has enabled MAPEI to contribute to the construction and renovation of some of Canada’s most noteworthy structures and infrastructure, ranging from the Minoru Aquatic Centre in Richmond, BC, to Toronto, Ontario’s Union Station, to the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The new powder line will have a capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year for each shift. The new admixtures line will have a capacity of 7,000 tonnes per year for each shift. The increased warehouse space now allows for more effective distribution of all of this product: A 50,750-square-foot (4 715-square-meter) expansion to the former 128,000-square-foot (11 892-square-meter) polymers facility, R&D Centre for Excellence in Concrete Construction, and Canadian head office. “With 11 product lines covering all aspects of construction, MAPEI Inc. is poised to achieve even greater heights than before in helping to build Canada more sustainably in the years to come,” Di Geso remarked.
