Alectra introduces an electric bucket truck

With the introduction of its electric bucket truck, Alectra takes a step towards electrifying its fleet. Alectra Utilities has expanded its fleet with the addition of an International eMV all-electric double bucket truck. Powerline technicians will employ the EV in their day-to-day overhead line maintenance activities. Alectra received one of the first trucks shipped to Ontario. “The addition of our first fully electric bucket truck marks a significant step towards electrification,” stated Chris Hudson, SVP of Network Operations at Alectra Utilities. “Integrating this cutting-edge vehicle into our fleet is part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and fostering a cleaner energy future.”

Over the next nine months, Alectra’s Operations team will integrate the electric vehicle bucket truck into its fleet. The truck will be rotated between Alectra’s three major service sites in Markham, Hamilton, and Brampton. The program’s goal is to assess the vehicle’s feasibility and potential for future deployment. Adding this EV bucket truck is equivalent to removing nearly two average passenger vehicles from the road, based on annual Canadian vehicle emissions. Alectra’s dedication to environmental measures goes beyond the all-electric bucket truck. The incorporation of three Ford E-Transits and four Plug-In Hybrid Ford Escapes into its field operations is also part of the fleet growth.
