PROram Advances Wind Tower Manufacturing Precision

Dimensional accuracy is critical in wind tower production, and PROram is leading the charge with innovative techniques that reference real geometry rather than idealised CAD models. Using the Leica Absolute Tracker AT500 alongside the Leica B-Probeplus, PROram measures, traces, and verifies features on large steel tower sections with millimetre-level precision.

The B-Probeplus is a versatile tool that allows rapid, flexible point measurement inside massive structures, reaching areas traditional tools cannot. Paired with the AT500’s portability and PowerLock technology, this enables PROram to guide welders accurately from the outset.

The implementation of these technologies has resulted in up to a 40% increase in measurement throughput and around a 30% reduction in time for critical production steps. This leads to a significant decrease in the need for rework and alignment corrections.

By aligning welding operations to the actual axis and flanges of the towers, PROram ensures quality is integrated from the start of the manufacturing process. This marks a shift from quality being inspected in at later stages, enhancing efficiency and product integrity.

Hexagon supports PROram in their efforts to modernise workflows across wind energy, offshore, and heavy industry sectors.
