More than 200 engineering apprenticeships being created by Manufacturing Technology Centre
The roles are being created on the edge of Coventry and in Abingdon
The Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry is set to recruit a record number of apprentices – with more than 200 roles up for grabs.
The recruitment drive for the engineering talent of the future will see 100 of the MTC’s 2020 intake based at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre on the MTC’s campus at Ansty Park on the edge of Coventry.
A further 100 roles are being created at the MTC-run Oxfordshire Advanced Skills in Abingdon.
Apprentices at the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre learn the latest technology in areas such as intelligent automation, metrology and advanced machinery.
They will also be given the opportunity to test and develop their skills with partner employers.
Paul Rowlett, managing director of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre, said the MTC had gained a reputation for supporting the engineering sector with high quality apprenticeship training programmes.
He said: “Our purpose is to seed the manufacturing sector with a pipeline of capable engineering technicians.
“Our apprenticeship programme creates fully rounded, business ready, skilled engineers capable of giving employers a genuine return on investment and business impact, helping them become increasingly globally competitive.
“The open evening will give potential apprentices the chance to learn everything they need about our programmes, including access to over 30 engineer upskilling short courses.”
The MTC was founded by the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and TWI. Its industrial members include some of the UK’s major manufacturers.
The MTC aims to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. It is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
A special open day is taking this Saturday (November 16) between 10am and 2pm for any young people who are interested in the apprenticeships, which will start in September 2020.
Young people, parents, careers advisors, teachers and college staff are all welcome to attend the open event this Saturday.
