Whitehouse Machine Tools has once again pushed the limits of high-performance machining with a successful tooling trial in partnership with Vargus. Conducted on the Biglia B465 T2Y2 multi-axis turning centre, the trial focused on the notoriously challenging Inconel 718 — and delivered outstanding results.
The test featured Vargus’ latest V-Mill and V-Drill product lines, ranging from 1 mm micro endmills to 12 mm endmills and 8.5 mm drills. Each tool was subjected to aggressive paths, demanding tolerances, and the inherent difficulties of working with a tough nickel-based superalloy.
Speaking on the trial, Harry Wincott, Applications Engineer at Whitehouse Machine Tools, said:
“The tooling handled everything we threw at it very well, especially the 1 mm endmills, given our challenging tool paths. The 12 mm endmill and the 8.5 mm drill looked like they could chew through Inconel all day, and in regards to the speeds and feeds, there seemed to be a lot more to give. As always, the thread mill produced a perfect thread in Inconel in just one pass, with minimal chatter and tool wear. I’d 100% use Vargus’ tooling range again after these results.”
This collaboration highlights Whitehouse’s continued drive to push boundaries and validate the performance of advanced tooling in real-world conditions. The Biglia B465 T2Y2, known for its rigid construction and precision capabilities, provided the perfect platform to evaluate the full potential of Vargus tooling in one of the most demanding materials in modern manufacturing.
Whitehouse Machine Tools would like to thank the team at Vargus UK for their ongoing support and technical expertise. Their tooling not only met expectations — it exceeded them.
As industries increasingly rely on exotic alloys like Inconel 718, this trial reaffirms the importance of choosing the right combination of machine tool, cutting strategy, and tooling. At Whitehouse Machine Tools, we’re proud to help our customers stay ahead of the curve by partnering with tooling specialists who share our commitment to performance and innovation.
