IAE International Aero Engines AG (IAE), a multinational engine consortium, has announced a major operational milestone: its V2500 engine family has surpassed 300 million engine flight hours in global service. The achievement is a testament to the enduring performance, durability, and reliability of one of the aviation industry’s most widely used powerplants.
Formed by Pratt & Whitney (an RTX business), Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation, and MTU Aero Engines AG, IAE powers a global fleet of approximately 2,800 aircraft, serving over 150 operators across passenger, cargo, and military missions.
The V2500 engine remains a mainstay in powering the Airbus A320ceo family, including A321F passenger-to-freighter conversions, and the Embraer C-390 Millennium, a modern military transport aircraft.
“The V2500 is a mainstay of the industry, and this latest milestone of 300 million flight hours is evidence of the engine’s legacy of reliability and performance,” said Kelly Horan, President of IAE. “With an average age of 15 years, the V2500 engine is in the prime of its life — and we continue to offer customised solutions to meet our customers’ needs.”
Highlighting the engine’s durability, IAE revealed that a high-time V2500 unit, installed in April 2013, recently recorded over 43,000 hours of flight before being removed for service — a powerful demonstration of the platform’s long-term operational capability.
IAE continues to enhance its support offerings through services such as life-limited part solutions, new and serviceable material programs, and engine swaps, tailored to the unique operational and financial goals of airline operators.
Additionally, the V2500 has proven its forward-looking potential by successfully completing tests on 100% synthetic aviation fuel (SAF) in 2024, aligning with broader industry goals for sustainable aviation.
With 13 global MRO facilities backing the engine family, IAE is committed to supporting its long-established base with ongoing innovation, strategic service upgrades, and sustainability readiness.
As IAE celebrates its 40th anniversary of collaboration, the V2500’s legacy continues to grow — powered by experience, trusted by the industry.
