The TIMTOS exhibition in Taiwan closed its doors on the 11th of March, after a hugely successful week that drew over 45,000 visitors to Taipei. The show was attended by almost 6,000 international visitors from more than 100 countries, and among the overseas visitors was your favourite manufacturing media outlet, MTDCNC.
This year’s TIMTOS show has been hailed as a tremendous success by major exhibitors that participated, such as FFG, TT Group, Takisawa, Heidenhain and many more. Whilst it’s too early to tally up the volume of business conducted at the event, some visitors said: ‘We’ve taken enough orders at TIMTOS to keep the whole year busy,’ and ‘TIMTOS 2023 is even more dynamic than the pre-pandemic times.’ A significant level of business was placed at the show with manufacturers like Goodway, KMC, WELE, Quick Jet, UNIFY and Delta Electronics all delighted with the considerable orders secured on-site.
As one of the biggest manufacturing exhibitions in the world, the MTDCNC team travelled to Taipei where we spoke to John Winkler from Trumpf Asia who told us all about the new 1030 Fiber 8kW laser that made its debut at the exhibition. Alluding to why the global manufacturer is exhibiting at TIMTOS, John says: “Taiwan is a very important market for us and we have been here for 35 years And we have a large install base in Taiwan.”
Our roving reporters also spoke with Kyle Lo from SOCO who told us about the fully electric servo-driven robot-loaded automation cell that works in tandem with the company’s tube-bending machine. Also from the world of tube bending, Mark Shih from CSM. He said: “TIMTOS is a great platform for businesses like CSM. The company was demonstrating its laser cutting machine that will automatically load, laser cut and unload components 24/7.” At the show, CSM was presenting a 2kW laser with the facility to cut material up to approximately 7mm thick.
We also met Jeff Lin from Tailift, he told MTDCNC that Tailift were exhibiting at TIMTOS because: “It’s a very big show that attracts manufacturers from around the world as well as Taiwan. It’s a very important domestic exhibition, but the number of overseas visitors is also significant.” Enjoying a hugely successful show, the company was showing its laser technology that can provide laser power up to 40kW for special applications.
Moving from the sheet metal hall to the machine tools, MTD spoke with Andrew Yu from Tongtai who gave us a tour of the stand and introduced us to the company’s VTX-10 machining centre with robot loading. We then spoke with Andy Fung from FFG that introduced us to the Feeler multifunctional vertical turning centre with overlapping X, Y and Z-axes with a travelling column design. Equally impressive was the You Ji VTL that was presented by Jerry Wu. Jerry told MTDCNC: “with this machine you can complete parts within a single machine, saving a considerable amount of time and setups. The machine can be used for turning, drilling, milling and grinding.”
Nicolas Budrino from Axile introduced us to the company’s latest G9 machining centre. Nicolas told MTDCNC: “This is our latest Gantry type machining centre with a capacity of up to 2 tons on the table and very fast movement of the tilting table with up to 80 ft/m on the C-axis and 60 ft/m on the A-axis. The machine also has HSK 100 16,000rpm spindle that offers very high material removal with large tools. The next model that we will be launching will be the G10 and this will come with palletised options.”
MTDCNC’s Colin Griffiths also visited the Vision Wide stand and looked at the company’s gantry 5-axis VMC and 73kW ASM vertical turning centre that also accommodates milling and grinding capabilities. Commenting on the visit to TIMTOS, Colin said: “TIMTOS is a fantastic exhibition with an unfathomable amount of cutting-edge technology on show. We found a huge number of exhibitors that are household brands in the Asian market with incredible innovations. As for the trip to Taipei, the hospitality, links to the showground and the general layout of the exhibition and the respective exhibitors were world-class – its an exhibition I would recommend to any overseas manufacturer, especially if you want to find next-generation technology that will give you a competitive advantage.”
