Solaris Bus & Coach, a leading European manufacturer of buses and trolleybuses and part of the Spanish CAF Group, has signed two major contracts to supply a total of 170 electric buses to Sweden, valued at over €100 million. The latest orders further cement Solaris’ role in Europe’s transition toward sustainable public transportation.
The buses will be produced in Poland, where Solaris and its subsidiaries employ around 3,000 people, underscoring the company’s strong manufacturing base and regional economic impact.
The larger of the two orders comes from Nobina Sverige AB, Sweden’s largest public transport operator, which has commissioned 89 Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric buses for deployment in Stockholm. This order builds on previous collaborations — in 2024 alone, Solaris delivered 55 electric buses to Nobina for the Swedish capital and an additional 28 units for operations in Skåne, in the south of the country. The latest vehicles are expected to enter service in the first half of 2026, operating on both urban and suburban routes in the greater Stockholm area.
Meanwhile, VR Sverige AB, another leading public transport provider in Sweden, has ordered 81 Solaris Urbino 15 LE electric buses, also for suburban use around Stockholm. Deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
The Urbino 15 LE electric model is a tri-axle, low-entry bus specifically designed for both urban and intercity applications. Each vehicle will be equipped with Solaris’ High Energy batteries, offering extended range capabilities to meet the demands of regional operations. Additionally, the buses will feature advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to improve safety and performance.
Solaris has been active in the Swedish market since 2003, having delivered nearly 800 vehicles, including battery-electric and hydrogen-powered buses. The company’s continued success is evident in its 2024 delivery record, which reached 1,525 vehicles across Europe, reflecting a 5% year-on-year increase. Notably, 83% of these deliveries were zero- and low-emission vehicles, highlighting Solaris’ leadership in green mobility.
These new Swedish contracts reinforce Solaris’ strategic role in supporting clean and efficient public transport across Europe and reflect a growing demand for sustainable transport solutions in the Nordics.
