Grace Peckett, a mechatronics apprentice at Amazon and trainee on the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) Training Apprenticeship Programme, has been named the winner of the prestigious Enginuity Skills Awards 2025 Trophy Design Competition. Her winning design will be manufactured by industrial automation leader Fanuc and presented to winners at the Enginuity Skills Awards ceremony on 3 July 2025 at Park Plaza London Riverbank.
Now an established element of the annual Enginuity Skills Awards, the trophy design competition invites apprentices from across the UK to create a trophy that encapsulates the innovation and diversity of modern engineering. Designs are judged on aesthetic appeal, representation of UK engineering, and real-world manufacturability. The final product will be built using industry-grade production processes, showcasing the practicality of the winning concept.
Grace’s design impressed the judges with its unique natural form and creative use of reflective surfaces.
“I wanted to think outside the box and create something that reflected both my personality and the values of engineering,” she said. “What’s on the outside is just as important as what’s inside – in engineering and in people.”
Originally trained in the arts, Grace earned a Master’s in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University before joining Amazon in 2020 as a fulfilment associate. In 2024, she transitioned to a technical career path, securing a place as a mechatronics engineering apprentice through the MTC Training Programme.
The competition was developed through a collaborative initiative between Enginuity, the MTC, and Fanuc, reflecting the growing emphasis on partnerships across the sector to inspire the next generation of engineers.
“At Enginuity, we believe collaboration is key to closing the skills gap,” said Mandeep Sandhu, Sector Engagement Lead at Enginuity. “This competition is a great example of how apprentices can apply their learning in creative, meaningful ways.”
The Enginuity Skills Awards 2025 will celebrate the individuals, teams, and organisations driving innovation, diversity, and talent in UK engineering and manufacturing. Grace’s trophy design will be awarded to winners across several categories, cementing her creative vision as a lasting symbol of the sector’s future.
