MTDCNC is excited to read this news, having recently spent time with Rob Lawton. Paul and Lyndsey had the pleasure of hearing first-hand about this exciting next chapter for Lawton Tubes and the company’s ambitious plans for growth.
The first visual designs have been released for a brand-new £20 million facility for Lawton Tubes — a leading manufacturer and supplier of copper tubing.
The Coventry-based business has submitted planning proposals for a state-of-the-art, two-storey development on a 5.83-acre site on Torrington Avenue, formerly occupied by Sandvik. The impressive new facility will feature a 107,768 sq. ft. warehouse, alongside modern office and welfare spaces totalling 17,220 sq. ft.
The expansion will bring together Lawton Tubes’ manufacturing, storage, and office operations under one roof. The building will also include sustainability-focused features, with solar panels covering the entire office roof and a 40-metre service yard to support efficient operations.
Strategically located across the road from its current headquarters, the new site will complement Lawton Tubes’ wider operations, including its facilities in Redditch and Poole. The company employs more than 140 people and boasts an annual turnover of £230 million.
Lawton Tubes continues to be a remarkable success story for British manufacturing, proudly exporting to more than 40 countries and having earned the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of its international trade achievements. Its copper tube — 100% recyclable — is trusted globally across heating and plumbing, air conditioning, medical, and industrial sectors.
Giles Lawton, Managing Director of Operations and fourth-generation member of the family-run business founded in 1918, commented:
“The submission of the planning application marks a significant milestone in our journey. This additional facility will unlock further growth opportunities for the business, and we are optimistic about receiving planning permission before the end of the year.
“Coventry has always been a fantastic base for us, with excellent transport links and a central location that supports our growth ambitions. This investment reaffirms our commitment to the region, creating further employment opportunities and enhancing our operational capacity.
“Copper plays a vital role in modern life — from delivering oxygen to hospital beds, enabling electric vehicle production, to heating homes across the world. This facility will give us the platform to continue our domestic and international growth.”
MTDCNC looks forward to following the next stages of this exciting development for Lawton Tubes.
