Bowers & Jones Honoured with King’s Award for International Trade Success

Bowers & Jones, a leading Black Country manufacturer in the metal-forming industry, has been awarded the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. This honour recognises the company’s remarkable export growth, with international sales now accounting for 80% of total revenue.

The King’s Awards for Enterprise are the UK’s most respected business accolades, personally approved by His Majesty The King and recommended by the Prime Minister. Bowers & Jones joins a select group of companies to receive this esteemed recognition in 2025.

Under the leadership of Managing Director Jane Sommerville and Finance Director Nicola Owen, who acquired the company in 2020, Bowers & Jones has experienced a remarkable transformation. Despite taking over during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and relocating operations to Bilston during lockdown, the team has more than doubled turnover and expanded their global reach to over 300 customers across the UK, North America, Europe, and beyond.

Reflecting on the award, Jane Sommerville said:

“This award represents a tremendous achievement for our entire business. To receive such prestigious recognition, especially after the challenges we’ve faced since 2020, is rewarding and a testament to our dedication to excellence in international trade.”

John Wood, Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands, praised the company’s efforts and determination:

“This recognition marks a significant achievement for Bowers & Jones. Jane’s commitment began when she attended a Lieutenancy seminar two years ago, which inspired her to pursue the award. Their submission was exceptional and stood out among only a few West Midlands companies to earn this honour.”

Founded in 1955, Bowers & Jones has become a global leader in roll tooling and rolling mill product manufacturing. Their tools are critical in the production of long metal products such as welded and seamless pipes, steel sections, and copper extrusions. The company is also making strides into non-ferrous applications, including components for electrical conduction and heating cable systems.

Receiving the King’s Award marks more than just a milestone — it opens doors to new markets, investment, and talent. It’s a globally recognised symbol of resilience, innovation, and sustained business excellence.
