Formteknik Värnamo, a leading specialist in high-pressure die casting tools and precision components, has significantly enhanced its production capabilities with the integration of two advanced Grob universal machining centres. The investment marks a major step forward in the company’s drive for efficiency, precision, and scalability.
The partnership began in 2022 when Formteknik Värnamo sought a solution to streamline its operations, reduce setup times, and enable more efficient unmanned production. After a comprehensive evaluation, the company selected the Grob G550, a 5-axis universal machining centre renowned for its precision, flexibility, and chip handling. Just six months after its successful commissioning, the company added a second Grob machine — the larger G750 — to accommodate growing demand and expand capabilities for larger components.
“We found the perfect solution with Grob to complete complex parts in a single setup,” said Dennis Martinsson, Co-owner of Formteknik Värnamo. “Not only are the machines extremely reliable, but the training and after-sales service have also been outstanding.”
The results have been transformative. Machining times have dropped dramatically — from 50–60 hours down to just 2–3 hours per part. Processes such as hole drilling, once taking up to 40 hours, are now completed in as little as 20 minutes. These improvements have effectively doubled the company’s production capacity, while also increasing overall competitiveness.
Key to this success is the design of the Grob machines, which feature horizontal spindles for optimal chip flow, making them ideal for unattended operation. Both the G550 and G750 deliver high dynamic performance, stability, and fast chip-to-chip times, supporting efficient production of both small and medium series.
Beyond the machines themselves, Formteknik Värnamo has praised Grob’s exceptional service and the hands-on support provided by local sales partner Johan Nordström. “Thanks to their fast response, we were able to resume production just five days after a spindle crash,” added Martinsson. “Their training and technical support have been instrumental in getting the most from our investment.”
Magnus Friedland of Johan Nordström concluded, “It’s rewarding to see small companies like Formteknik Värnamo grow and thrive with this technology. The support from both our team and Grob ensures our customers are always in good hands.”
As Formteknik Värnamo continues to scale, one thing is clear — when it comes to high-performance machining, Grob is their go-to partner.
