Key Precision have recently invested in a Citizen L32 VIII LFV slider and it has caused them a problem! They were manufacturing a bearing retainer, 5 at a time, until swarf ingress became an issue. They looked at alternatives and got production runs up to 50 at a time.
Along came Warren from Citizen who gave them a solution, but it created a problem – the new machine could do batches of 500 without any issues! Well, the issue was they didn’t have enough bar, and the parts catcher needed to be expanded. Not a bad problem to have!
And, it is so good that they have taken out one of the operations – the part previously needed to be ground, but with the accuracy of the machine this was no longer required.
Greg tells us the story and about why they like their new machine so much.
