New INDEX G160, TRAUB MS12-4 and advanced iXcenter automation take centre stage in Stuttgart

Monday 27 July 2026, 3:49:42 PM

INDEX will demonstrate how manufacturers can boost productivity, reduce costs and achieve greater process efficiency at AMB 2026, taking place in Stuttgart.

Visitors to Hall 4, Booth 4B31 will be able to explore the company’s latest turn-mill centres, multi-spindle turning machines, production turning machines and automation solutions.

Alongside its high-performance manufacturing technologies, INDEX will present cost-effective entry-level versions of selected machines and robot cells. Despite their streamlined technical specifications, these solutions continue to deliver the quality, precision and reliability associated with INDEX.

New INDEX G160 expands the turn-mill range

Complete machining with powerful turn-mill centres remains a major industry trend. At AMB 2026, INDEX will introduce the new INDEX G160 turn-mill centre, expanding the established G-series with a more compact model.

The TRAUB TNX160, which is essentially identical in its mechanical design, will also be presented. The principal difference between the two machines is the control system. The INDEX G160 is equipped with the Siemens Sinumerik ONE CNC, while the TNX160 features the Mitsubishi-based TRAUB TX8i-s CNC.

Both machines are based on the proven INDEX G200.2 platform and cover the same range of workpieces.

At the heart of each machine is a high-performance motorised milling spindle with Y- and B-axes, enabling machining operations to be performed at both the main and counter spindle. Highly dynamic, direct-drive main and counter spindles further support demanding complete-machining applications.

Customers can choose between a spindle version with 42 mm bar capacity, designed for smaller components and high rotational speeds, or a higher-torque spindle with 65 mm bar capacity.

The tool magazine holds 60 tools as standard, with an optional capacity of 90 tools. A double gripper loads tools into the milling spindle, making the machines particularly well suited to automated manufacturing environments.

Robot performs automatic turret tool changes

INDEX will also exhibit the established INDEX G220 turn-mill centre, connected to an iXcenter L robot cell.

At AMB, the iXcenter L will be presented as a cost-effective entry-level version fitted with a safety fence. A major highlight will be the robot’s ability to perform automatic tool changes within the machine turret.

For this process, the turret’s VDI mounting must be equipped with either a straight or angled HSK base holder. INDEX specialists will be available at the booth to explain the requirement and demonstrate the automated tool-changing process.

iXcenter automation for multi-spindle turning machines

Another new automation solution will be demonstrated on the INDEX MS24-6 multi-spindle turning machine.

INDEX has developed a dedicated iXcenter robot cell specifically for this class of machine. Mounted directly to the machine, the cell automates component unloading and handling.

Its modular design allows the iXcenter to be adapted for a wide range of additional processes. With the appropriate options, it can support closed-loop manufacturing, enabling stable, low-operator production of insert parts while maintaining consistent process quality.

The automation system can also be retrofitted to many standard INDEX multi-spindle turning machines.

TRAUB MS12-4 delivers exceptional productivity per unit area

A further highlight of the INDEX booth will be the new TRAUB MS12-4, a multi-spindle sliding and fixed headstock turning machine designed for small components with diameters from 3 to 13 mm.

The machine is based on an entirely new kinematic multi-spindle concept. Rather than relying on a conventional spindle drum and sequential machining process, the MS12-4 follows the operating principle of the TRAUB TNL12 sliding headstock turning machine.

Core components, including the main and counter spindles, turrets and flexible tool carriers, known as FlexWT, are effectively stacked vertically four times.

This arrangement enables four components to be machined simultaneously, delivering significantly greater productivity within a compact footprint.

The modular design of the TRAUB MS12-4 provides additional flexibility. In addition to the complete configuration—with four main spindles, four turrets, four counter spindles and four FlexWT tool carriers—customers can select from a range of alternative equipment configurations.

This enables the machine to be specified precisely and cost-effectively according to individual component and production requirements.

Cost-effective entry into sliding headstock machining

INDEX will also present the TRAUB TNL12 lean, a cost-effective sliding and fixed headstock turning machine.

This entry-level version is equipped with one turret and one back-working unit, making it particularly attractive for manufacturers seeking to minimise their initial investment.

The live guide bush is adjustable, although not programmable. Customers requiring additional functionality can expand the lean version with a range of optional features as their production requirements develop.

INDEX C200 returns as a production turning benchmark

The INDEX C200 will also feature on the AMB stand.

A longstanding benchmark among production turning machines, the C200 is renowned for highly productive bar machining and remains a regular feature of INDEX trade show displays.

The machine is available with either Siemens or Fanuc CNC technology. At AMB 2026, INDEX will exhibit the C200 in its Fanuc-controlled configuration.

Meet INDEX application, digital and technology experts

INDEX specialists will be positioned throughout the booth to answer questions and provide detailed information about every machine, automation system and technology on display.

A dedicated Meet the Experts area at the centre of the stand will give visitors the opportunity to discuss machining solutions for the medical, aerospace and e-mobility industries with INDEX application and technology specialists.

INDEX digital experts will also demonstrate the practical benefits of the INDEX iXworld platform.

Visitors will be able to explore a range of iX4.0 applications and learn how the iX4.0 Industrial Internet of Things platform provides greater transparency and productivity throughout the machining process chain.

The team will also demonstrate how iXshop simplifies the procurement of spare parts, tooling and associated equipment, as well as the benefits provided by iXservices throughout the after-sales and service process.
