Emuge Franked has reported a significant productivity gain in the manufacturing of primary shafts for automotive transmissions. By partnering with Linamar Corporation, the company focused on enhancing the efficiency of the thread machining process.

The core of the project was utilising Emuge Franked’s Speedsynchro tool, a custom core drill, and a thread former. Notably, this marks the Speedsynchro’s first application in steel, having previously been used solely for aluminium.

By refining this specific processing step, cutting speeds increased dramatically, leading to a more efficient overall process. The result was a 30% reduction in machining time without compromising process security or thread quality.

This advancement not only decreased processing time but also bolstered process security and enhanced the quality of threads, crucial improvements for high-volume series production. The project highlights the potential for significant productivity improvements through targeted process evaluation and optimisation.

Emuge Franked praised the collaborative effort with Linamar, acknowledging the team’s open communication throughout the project.
