Mitsui Seiki Unveils HU63A-5XT Five-Axis Mill-Turn Center for High-Precision Aerospace Manufacturing
At IMTS 2026, Mitsui Seiki USA is showcasing the HU63A-5XT, an advanced five-axis horizontal machining center that combines simultaneous milling and turning capabilities within a single high-precision platform. Designed specifically for next-generation aerospace manufacturing, the HU63A-5XT enables manufacturers to complete complex components from roughing to finishing in a single setup, significantly reducing setup time, minimizing clamping errors and improving overall machining accuracy. The machine is engineered to meet the demanding requirements of aerospace manufacturers where precision, repeatability and process reliability are critical for producing high-value components.
The HU63A-5XT has been developed to provide complete part processing within one machine, eliminating the need for multiple setups and reducing the dimensional variations that often occur when workpieces are transferred between different machines. This capability is particularly valuable for manufacturers producing complex aerospace components such as engine cases, housings and structural parts, where even minor alignment errors can result in mismatched assemblies, costly rework or rejected components. By integrating milling and turning operations into a single machining platform, the machine helps improve component consistency while increasing productivity and reducing manufacturing costs.
The machining center offers generous X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 900 mm, enabling the production of a wide range of medium to large aerospace components. Simultaneous five-axis machining allows complex geometries to be produced with exceptional accuracy, reducing the need for secondary operations while improving surface quality and dimensional precision. At the heart of the system is a high-torque spindle capable of delivering up to 1,081 Nm of torque, allowing efficient machining of difficult materials without compromising cutting performance. The machine also delivers positioning accuracy of ±0.001 mm, ensuring the high level of precision required for mission-critical aerospace applications.
The HU63A-5XT has been specifically engineered to machine hard-to-cut materials commonly used in the aerospace industry, including titanium and other high-strength alloys. Cutting feed rates ranging from 0.1 to 10,000 mm per minute across the X, Y and Z axes provide excellent machining flexibility for both roughing and finishing operations. Rapid traverse rates further enhance productivity, with the X-axis reaching speeds of 12,000 mm per minute and the Y and Z axes achieving rapid movements of up to 24,000 mm per minute. The machine’s rotary axes are equally impressive, with the A-axis capable of rotating at 2,160 degrees per minute and the B-axis reaching 3,600 degrees per minute, enabling fast positioning while maintaining outstanding machining accuracy.
Designed for automated, high-volume production, the HU63A-5XT comes equipped with 630 mm square pallets, a standard automatic pallet changer (APC) and an automatic tool changer, allowing continuous machining with minimal operator intervention. The complete machining system, including dual automatic pallet changers and an integrated chip conveyor, measures approximately 5,700 mm × 4,700 mm × 3,450 mm, providing a compact yet highly capable solution for modern manufacturing facilities. The machine accommodates pallet heights of 1,500 mm on the APC side and 1,480 mm on the machining side, ensuring efficient workpiece handling and operational flexibility.
The HU63A-5XT is powered by the FANUC Series 501 iS-A CNC controller, a high-performance control platform developed specifically for complex, high-speed multitasking machining applications. In addition to simultaneous five-axis milling and turning, the machine supports a full range of machining operations, including drilling, boring, tapping and reaming, enabling manufacturers to complete virtually all machining processes on a single platform. This comprehensive capability helps reduce work-in-progress inventory, shorten production lead times and improve overall manufacturing efficiency.
Commenting on the machine’s capabilities, Daniel Cleary, President and CEO of Mitsui Seiki USA, said that combining full five-axis machining and turning functionality within a single platform allows manufacturers to complete highly complex components in one setup. According to Cleary, this approach minimizes variation, improves production throughput and delivers the exceptional precision required for today’s most demanding aerospace applications. By integrating advanced machining technology, automation and high-accuracy performance, the Mitsui Seiki HU63A-5XT offers manufacturers a powerful solution for producing next-generation aerospace components with greater efficiency, consistency and quality.
