Denmark’s leading wind energy company, Vestas, has unveiled plans to establish a new manufacturing plant in the United Kingdom. With an investment of £216 million, the planned facility in Scotland is set to play a pivotal role in the manufacturing of nacelles and hubs for Vestas’s flagship offshore wind turbine, the V236-15.0 MW.
This ambitious project is expected to generate around 500 jobs, contributing significantly to the local economy and reinforcing the UK’s energy security through the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure. The innovative factory is designed to support the growing demand for offshore wind energy solutions.
The announcement of the new plant follows the success of the AR7 auction in January 2026 and reflects a strategic effort by Vestas to expand its offshore wind order book in the UK. The development of the factory has been discussed with the UK and Scottish Governments, highlighting potential opportunities for co-investment and the enhancement of the local supply chain.
The construction of the factory hinges on securing sufficient orders from the upcoming AR7 and AR8 auction results. Assuming timely conclusions to these conditions and the necessary planning approvals, production at the facility could commence by 2029 or 2030. Vestas also aims to explore possibilities for integrating sub-suppliers of other major components at the site, further strengthening the supply chain.
