Rolls-Royce has announced a significant expansion of its Advanced Blade Casting Facility in Rotherham, injecting over £21 million to enhance its manufacturing capabilities. This investment aims to double the facility’s output by 2030, bolstering its role in the production of some of the world’s most sophisticated turbine blades.
The total investment includes a crucial £2 million grant from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, which will aid in the acquisition of additional specialist machinery necessary for the capacity increase. This development is poised to boost both the capability and productivity of the Rotherham site, which opened in 2015.
Currently, the Advanced Blade Casting Facility is dedicated to casting, machining, and inspecting intermediate and high-pressure turbine blades for the Trent XWB-84 and Trent 1000 XE engines. These engines power the Airbus A350-900 and the Boeing 787, respectively. The facility plays a vital role in Rolls-Royce’s aerospace operations, employing over 300 people in South Yorkshire.
This expansion reflects Rolls-Royce’s commitment to advancing manufacturing technology and supporting the aerospace sector. By enhancing its production capabilities at this state-of-the-art facility, Rolls-Royce aims to meet the growing demand for efficient and advanced turbine technologies.
Rolls-Royce, a leading name in aerospace engineering, continues to innovate and expand its operations worldwide. This latest investment in the Rotherham facility underscores its strategic focus on growing its manufacturing footprint in the UK.
