Emco Mecof Powermill G3 PC3 Combines Large Working Area with Compact Gantry Design!

Emco Corp. has introduced the Mecof Powermill G3 PC3 gantry milling machine, engineered to deliver a large working area within a compact and robust structure. Designed for manufacturers operating in space-constrained facilities but requiring large-scale machining capability, the Powermill G3 PC3 integrates structural rigidity with advanced Industry 4.0 digital solutions.

The machine is equipped with a Heidenhain TNC 640 HSCI numerical control system, along with Heidenhain’s Industry 4.0 package. This combination supports enhanced connectivity, process monitoring and data integration, enabling manufacturers to align the machine with modern digital production environments. The integration of smart control technology allows improved transparency, traceability and efficiency across machining operations.

With axis strokes of 8,000 mm in X, 4,500 mm in Y and 1,500 mm in Z, the Powermill G3 PC3 is tailored for machining large-format components. Its expansive 8,000 × 3,000 mm work surface provides ample space for oversized parts, while a load capacity of up to 15,000 kg per square meter (class II DIN 876) ensures stability during heavy-duty operations. This structural strength supports consistent accuracy even under high cutting forces.

The machine features a universal bi-rotary head with automatic positioning, delivering 38 kW of power, maximum torque of 615 Nm and spindle speeds of up to 6,000 rpm with an ISO 50 tool interface. This versatility allows the Powermill G3 PC3 to perform a wide range of operations, from aggressive material removal during roughing to high-precision finishing. The flexible head configuration enhances access to complex geometries and multi-sided parts, reducing repositioning requirements.

To maintain productivity in demanding production settings, the milling center includes a 60-position chain tool changer. Mounted to the crossbeam shoulder and combined with a sliding exchange arm, the system is designed for reliable and rapid tool replacement, minimizing downtime and optimizing cycle times. Efficient tool handling is critical when machining large parts that require multiple operations.

Chip evacuation is managed through longitudinally arranged ramp conveyors, promoting smooth and efficient removal of swarf from the working area. This supports process stability and reduces the risk of chip buildup interfering with machining accuracy. The integrated cooling system further enhances performance, offering dual coolant delivery both near the spindle and through the spindle. This setup improves cutting efficiency and extends tool life. A multistage filtration system capable of filtering down to 25 microns ensures coolant cleanliness and consistent performance.

By combining a compact footprint with an expansive working envelope, high structural rigidity and advanced digital capabilities, the Mecof Powermill G3 PC3 is positioned to meet the needs of manufacturers handling large, heavy components while maintaining efficient use of shop floor space.
