Jack Uppal Returns as President and Managing Director of GM Canada!
General Motors Canada has announced the appointment of Jack Uppal as President and Managing Director, effective February 1, 2026, marking a significant leadership transition for the company’s Canadian operations. Uppal returns to Canada after leading General Motors’ Africa and Middle East region, bringing with him more than two decades of experience within GM and over a decade of senior international leadership across China, India, Singapore, and the Middle East. In his new role, he will report to Duncan Aldred, Senior Vice-President and President of GM North America.
Uppal’s return comes at a time when GM Canada is focused on strengthening market share, accelerating innovation, and reinforcing its leadership position in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape. During his tenure as President and Managing Director of GM Africa & Middle East, Uppal delivered consistent volume and market share growth while maintaining sustainable financial performance. One of the most notable achievements under his leadership was the successful turnaround of GM Egypt, where Chevrolet was restored as the market leader—demonstrating his ability to manage complex markets and deliver results in challenging operating environments.
General Motors leadership highlighted Uppal’s deep understanding of both global and Canadian markets as a key factor behind his appointment. Duncan Aldred noted that Uppal’s combination of international perspective and strong connection to Canada positions him well to guide GM’s future in the country, particularly as the industry navigates electrification, digital transformation, and shifting customer expectations.
For Uppal, the appointment represents both a professional milestone and a personal homecoming. Having started his GM career in Canada in 2001, he brings firsthand knowledge of the local market, dealer network, and customer base. He has held senior roles across sales, marketing, customer experience, strategic planning, and brand management, earning a reputation for a customer-focused leadership style and disciplined execution.
Looking ahead, Uppal has indicated that his priorities will include sustaining sales momentum, expanding GM’s presence in key urban markets, and driving innovation across GM Canada’s operations. His focus will also be on strengthening collaboration with employees, dealers, and partners to unlock new growth opportunities and support GM’s long-term vision in Canada.
With 24 years at General Motors and a track record of leadership across diverse global regions, Uppal’s return signals continuity, experience, and renewed momentum as GM Canada enters its next phase of growth.
