**Aerolloy Technologies Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of **PTC Industries Limited, has completed the installation of a new Plasma Arc Melting (PAM) furnace at its Strategic Manufacturing Technology Centre in Lucknow, marking a significant expansion of its advanced materials manufacturing capabilities. The newly installed furnace, with an annual capacity of approximately 600 tonnes, is intended for the production of high-grade titanium alloy ingots and is now ready for trial runs and commissioning following the completion of all mechanical, electrical, and control system installations.

Plasma Arc Melting is a highly specialised metallurgical process used to produce titanium and other advanced alloys under tightly controlled conditions. By employing a plasma torch as the heat source, the process enables precise control over temperature, alloy chemistry, and material purity. This level of control is critical for aerospace, defence, and space applications, where even minor variations in material quality can have significant implications for performance, safety, and certification.

One of the key advantages of PAM technology is its ability to efficiently recycle internal titanium scrap generated during casting and machining operations. This improves overall material utilisation, reduces wastage, and lowers dependence on fresh raw materials—an important consideration given the high cost and strategic nature of aerospace-grade titanium. The process also supports the economical production of specialised and low-volume titanium alloys, which are often impractical to manufacture using conventional large-scale melting technologies.

With the commissioning of the PAM furnace, Aerolloy gains enhanced flexibility in alloy development, production planning, and cost management. The new capability allows the company to develop and manufacture customised titanium alloys tailored to the specific performance requirements of advanced aerospace, defence, and space programmes. This is particularly relevant for next-generation platforms that demand precise combinations of strength, weight, fatigue resistance, and high-temperature performance.

The PAM installation further complements Aerolloy’s existing Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) and Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) capabilities. Together, these technologies position the company as one of the most integrated titanium and superalloy manufacturing platforms in the region, capable of handling the entire value chain from alloy design and melting to casting and downstream processing. Such vertical integration is increasingly important for customers seeking supply-chain security, quality assurance, and faster development cycles.

From a strategic standpoint, the project aligns closely with PTC Industries’ long-term vision of building a comprehensive advanced materials ecosystem in India. By investing in state-of-the-art melting and alloy development infrastructure, the group aims to support both domestic aerospace and defence programmes and expand its presence in export markets for high-value, mission-critical materials.

The addition of Plasma Arc Melting technology at Lucknow strengthens India’s indigenous capability in advanced titanium manufacturing and reinforces Aerolloy’s role as a key supplier to global aerospace and defence supply chains, supporting the broader national objective of technological self-reliance in critical materials.
