Ceratizit USA Expands Solid Carbide Drill Portfolio to Extend Tool Life and Improve Sustainable Machining!
Ceratizit USA has strengthened its holemaking offering with the introduction of the WTX-Uni and WTX-Deep Uni solid carbide drill ranges, designed to deliver extended tool life, process reliability, and sustainability across a wide spectrum of machining applications. Developed to meet the demands of modern production environments, these drills provide manufacturers with versatile, high-performance solutions capable of handling multiple materials while reducing tooling complexity and environmental impact.
The WTX-Uni solid carbide drill range is engineered for precision drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steels up to 54 HRC. By enabling a single drill platform to perform reliably across diverse materials, the range helps manufacturers reduce the number of tools required, simplify inventory management, and minimize tool changes on the machine. This versatility translates directly into improved machining efficiency, lower downtime, and more streamlined shop-floor operations.
At the core of the WTX-Uni drill is Ceratizit’s CT-GS20Y carbide grade, produced using 99% recycled raw materials, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing. The drill features a specially developed end geometry with a convex cutting edge and a 140-degree point angle, promoting excellent self-centering and stable cutting conditions. Combined with an optimized flute design and Ceratizit’s DPA74S coating, the geometry supports efficient chip evacuation, reduces the risk of chip jamming, and contributes to long and predictable tool life.
The WTX-Uni drills are available in diameters ranging from 3 to 20 mm, offered in 3×D and 5×D lengths, with or without internal coolant supply and in multiple shank configurations. For applications requiring enhanced guidance and rigidity, Ceratizit also offers the WTX-Quattro variant, which incorporates four guide lands for improved stability. The WTX-Quattro is available in 5×D, 8×D, and 12×D lengths, with the longer versions featuring a modified 135-degree point angle to ensure reliable performance in deeper drilling operations.
For manufacturers facing extreme depth requirements, the WTX-Deep Uni solid carbide drill extends drilling capability up to 50×D, addressing applications where accuracy and reliability are critical over long hole depths. The tool’s redesigned geometry, polished chip spaces, and four guide lands work together to deliver high process stability, excellent drilling accuracy, and minimal hole deviation, even under demanding conditions. The WTX-Deep Uni is further enhanced with Ceratizit’s DPX74-M high-performance coating, which significantly extends tool life and wear resistance in challenging machining environments. This range is stocked in diameters from 3 to 14 mm, as well as 3 to 8 mm for specific deep-hole requirements.
Sustainability remains a central theme across the WTX drill family. In addition to the high recycled carbide content, each drill is designed to be reground and recoated back to its original specification, allowing manufacturers to maximize tool usage while conserving resources and lowering overall tooling costs. This approach supports both environmental responsibility and long-term economic efficiency.
Commenting on the new drill ranges, Troy Wilt, Managing Director of Ceratizit USA’s Cutting Tools Division, noted that the WTX-Uni range is particularly valuable for shops working with a wide variety of metals. He emphasized that the drills not only simplify tooling inventories but also deliver consistent and reliable cutting performance, making everyday machining operations more efficient and predictable.
With the WTX-Uni and WTX-Deep Uni ranges, Ceratizit USA continues to combine performance, flexibility, and sustainability, offering manufacturers solid carbide drilling solutions that meet today’s productivity demands while supporting responsible manufacturing practices.
