TRUMPF, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing technologies and high-performance laser systems, has inaugurated a new Technical Center for plasma generators in Taoyuan, Taiwan. This state-of-the-art facility reinforces TRUMPF’s commitment to supporting Asia’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem by enhancing service responsiveness, reducing carbon footprint through refurbishment, and extending the operating lifetime of critical manufacturing equipment. The establishment of this center reflects TRUMPF’s strategic focus on customer proximity and sustainability within one of the world’s most vital semiconductor regions.
According to Dr. Berthold Schmidt, CTO of TRUMPF, the investment highlights the company’s long-standing dedication to Taiwan and Asia. As semiconductor manufacturing advances toward ever-smaller geometries, increased 3D-structures and new materials, equipment must achieve extraordinary levels of precision, consistency and energy efficiency. TRUMPF’s solutions play a central role in enabling these advancements, providing the semiconductor industry with high-performance technologies essential for producing next-generation chips powering artificial intelligence, mobile networks, data centers and cloud computing. The new Technical Center will serve not only Taiwan but also Japan, Southeast Asia and South Korea, functioning as a regional hub for technical support and lifecycle management.
TRUMPF’s plasma generator technologies form a crucial part of advanced semiconductor fabrication, particularly in the creation of fine structures on silicon wafers. The newly inaugurated center is equipped with advanced infrastructure designed for the analysis, servicing and calibration of these plasma generators. These systems enable the highly controlled generation of plasma required for producing multi-layered chip architectures and advanced nodes. TRUMPF’s plasma generators deliver extremely high-voltage pulses that can ramp up and down hundreds of thousands of times per second, empowering semiconductor manufacturers to achieve nanometer-level 3D structures with the highest aspect ratios. This capability is fundamental for the ongoing progression of microelectronics and high-density chip designs.
Beyond plasma technology, TRUMPF is known worldwide for its EUV laser systems, high-power lasers and precision manufacturing solutions that drive semiconductor fabrication. The company remains a key partner to leading equipment suppliers and chip manufacturers, maintaining a strong presence inside semiconductor fabs throughout Taiwan. Its engineers frequently collaborate with customers to support system installation, optimization and maintenance, ensuring uninterrupted production for mission-critical chipmaking operations.
TRUMPF’s presence in Taiwan spans more than three decades, with five operational sites and a workforce of approximately 160 employees. Despite shifts in global semiconductor supply chains, the company continues to deepen its investment in the region, recognizing Taiwan’s pivotal role in global chip production. TRUMPF generates roughly one billion euros annually from semiconductor-related business, underlining the strategic importance of this sector to its overall portfolio.
The company’s global footprint includes nearly 90 subsidiaries, with production facilities across Europe, North America and Asia. As a world-leading technology provider in machine tools, industrial lasers and digital manufacturing solutions, TRUMPF remains committed to enabling smarter, more efficient and more sustainable manufacturing worldwide. The opening of the Taoyuan Technical Center further solidifies its leadership and enhances support for the semiconductor industry as it enters a new era of complexity and innovation.
