Hexagon’s Atlascan Pro Handheld 3D Scanner Redefines On-Site Component Inspection!

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence has unveiled the Atlascan Pro handheld 3D scanner, a breakthrough tool that combines precision, portability, and ease of use to make professional-grade scanning accessible to a wider range of industries. Designed for flexibility and speed, the Atlascan Pro allows operators to bring the scanner directly to components — from pump housings and automotive body panels to domestic appliances — enabling accurate measurement and inspection on the shop floor, in the field, or in challenging environments.

Weighing just 1 kilogram, the Atlascan Pro is exceptionally lightweight and ergonomically designed for all-day use. Its portability eliminates the need to transport large parts to metrology labs, allowing technicians to inspect components wherever they are located. Equipped with hot-swappable batteries that provide up to two hours of continuous operation and Wi-Fi connectivity, the scanner offers uninterrupted scanning even in unstable or remote environments. This makes it particularly useful for inspecting large or complex parts such as propellers, pipes, and industrial assemblies that are difficult to move.

Powered by multiple laser lines and a specialized processing algorithm, the Atlascan Pro captures high-resolution data at remarkable speed. In standard mode, it scans areas up to 720 × 640 mm at a rate of 4 million points per second. When finer detail is needed, users can switch to high-precision mode with a simple thumb control, reducing the scanning area to 160 × 140 mm while achieving greater resolution and data density. This flexibility allows seamless adaptation between scanning large surfaces and capturing intricate geometries.

Reverse engineering and design workflows also benefit significantly from the Atlascan Pro. It can scan small parts or damaged components from any angle, minimizing guesswork and post-processing. To support seamless data integration, Hexagon provides a free starter bundle of Geomagic Design X Go software with every unit. This enables users to quickly transform scanned data into editable 3D models or printable CAD files. For advanced CAD reconstruction and complex modeling, users can upgrade to Geomagic Design X or integrate the scanner into their preferred reverse engineering software environments.

The Atlascan Pro is equally powerful in quality control and inspection tasks. Certified to the VDI/VDE 2634-3 standard, it comes with Hexagon’s proprietary HH Scan software for intuitive dimensional inspection, geometric analysis, and automated report generation. It also offers direct compatibility with industry-leading platforms like Geomagic Control X and Geomagic Design X, with additional third-party integrations in development.

By combining speed, accuracy, and ease of use in a lightweight form, Hexagon’s Atlascan Pro handheld 3D scanner is setting a new standard for mobility and precision in industrial measurement. Whether used for inspection, reverse engineering, or rapid product development, it delivers an efficient and cost-effective solution for modern manufacturers aiming to enhance accuracy and productivity on the go.
