Hind Rectifiers Launches Commercial Production of Advanced Copper Conductors for Transformer Applications!

Hind Rectifiers Limited (HIRECT), a pioneer in power semiconductors, electronic systems, and railway traction equipment, has officially commenced commercial production of advanced copper conductors at its Sinnar facility in Maharashtra. This milestone marks the successful execution of HIRECT’s major backward integration strategy, aimed at strengthening supply chain resilience, improving cost efficiency, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products.

The new production line focuses on manufacturing Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC), Enamelled Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (EPICC), and Paper Insulated Copper Conductors (PICC) — all critical components in the production of traction transformers used in locomotives and other industrial applications. With this development, HIRECT significantly reduces its dependence on external vendors, ensuring consistent quality, improved production timelines, and enhanced control over the entire manufacturing process.

The project represents a capital investment of approximately ₹56 crore, funded through a mix of term loans and internal accruals. This expansion aligns with HIRECT’s vision to bolster its core manufacturing capabilities and address the growing demand for efficient transformer solutions, particularly from the Indian Railways, which remains one of its key customers. By manufacturing conductors in-house, the company expects to cut production costs, improve profit margins, and strengthen its competitive positioning in both domestic and international markets.

Commenting on the launch, Suramya Nevatia, Chairman and Managing Director of Hind Rectifiers Limited, said, “The start of copper conductor manufacturing marks a strategic leap for HIRECT. These conductors are in high demand, both domestically and globally, and this initiative positions us to cater not only to our internal transformer requirements but also to the broader transformer industry. This development will drive revenue growth, improve margins, and deliver long-term value to our customers and shareholders.”

Established in 1958 in collaboration with Westinghouse Brake & Signal, UK, Hind Rectifiers has evolved into a trusted Indian engineering and manufacturing enterprise with a legacy spanning over six decades. The company employs around 950 skilled professionals across its facilities in Nashik and Bhandup (Maharashtra) and maintains an international presence with offices in Sweden and the United Arab Emirates.

With this latest expansion, Hind Rectifiers reinforces its commitment to innovation, quality manufacturing, and self-reliance, aligning closely with India’s Make in India initiative. The in-house copper conductor production not only enhances operational efficiency but also strengthens the company’s long-term capability to serve the rapidly advancing energy and railway sectors with superior, indigenously manufactured components.
