Tsugami America is presenting its latest innovation, the SS20MH-III-5AX, a multifunction sliding headstock lathe designed for high-precision machining. This 20-mm platform lathe is equipped to produce complex-shaped workpieces with 3D curved surfaces, making it ideal for a range of industries, including medical, automotive, aerospace, and general manufacturing.
The SS20MH-III-5AX is highly versatile, featuring a B-axis tool spindle with a 30-position tool carousel. It offers the flexibility to work from bar stock or blanks, while also supporting both guide bushing mode and chucker mode, enhancing its adaptability for various manufacturing needs. The lathe is engineered for high-accuracy performance, with linear scales and an automatic tool presetter included as standard, ensuring that each part is machined to exacting tolerances.
At PMTS 2025, the SS20MH-III-5AX will be showcased alongside an integrated solution cart, including a FANUC CRX-5iA robot with a Schunk Universal Gripper for part loading and unloading. The solution also features a Pro Ultrasonics Cleaning Tank for part sanitization, a MiJet Drying System for part blow-off, and a dedicated staging area for finished parts. This integrated setup demonstrates Tsugami’s commitment to automation and efficiency, further enhancing the lathe’s capabilities.
Key features of the SS20MH-III-5AX include simultaneous five-axis contour capability, a sub-side Y-axis with six live tool positions, and a FANUC 31i-B5 Plus CNC control for seamless operation. Its high-rigidity bed is designed to maintain both speed and accuracy during high-performance tasks. Additionally, the lathe boasts a compact footprint, measuring 98.43″ × 75.00″ × 75.59″, making it suitable for a variety of production environments.
With its combination of precision, flexibility, and automation, the SS20MH-III-5AX stands as a powerful tool for manufacturers looking to tackle complex, high-precision machining tasks in industries that demand reliability and innovation.
