Rego-Fix Toolholder Enables Aggressive Turning Operations with PG48 Toolholder!

Rego-Fix Corp., a leading provider of innovative toolholding solutions, announced the launch of its latest addition to the PowRGrip (PG) tooling system: the PG48 toolholder. Specifically designed for large-diameter tools and aggressive machining applications, the PG48 toolholder sets a new standard in precision and performance for the metalworking industry.

The PG48 toolholder is engineered to accommodate cutters up to 40 mm (1.500″) in diameter, providing exceptional versatility for a wide range of turning operations. One of the standout features of the PG48 is its ability to deliver a total indicated runout (TIR) under 3 microns (0.0001″) for tool lengths up to 3×D, ensuring unparalleled accuracy and consistency in machining processes. This high level of precision is crucial for applications that demand tight tolerances and superior surface finishes.

In addition to its impressive runout specifications, the PG48 toolholder offers length preadjustment with a repeat accuracy of less than 10 microns (0.0004″). This feature allows for precise adjustments without the need for extensive recalibration, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and reducing setup times. Furthermore, the PG48 incorporates a special cap nut designed to effectively eliminate cutter pullout during heavy material removal applications, ensuring both safety and reliability in demanding machining environments.

The PG system utilizes a taper-to-taper, press-fit collet holding design that creates a vibration-damping gap, which interrupts the strength and severity of vibration waves. This innovative design is composed of three key components: toolholders, collets, and press-fit assembly mounting units. Due to its tool size capability, the PG48 holders require the use of the PGS48 press-fit assembly unit. The PGS48 is an automatic hydraulic press capable of generating up to 15 tons of force, facilitating the efficient pressing and removal of collets from the toolholders. Notably, the PGS48 is a single-series machine designed exclusively for the PG48, ensuring optimal performance and compatibility.

A major advantage of the PG48 toolholder is its ability to achieve toolsetting in less than 10 seconds without the use of heat or hydraulics, which are commonly required in other clamping systems. This rapid toolsetting capability allows tools to be used immediately after the clamping cycle concludes, eliminating the downtime associated with traditional systems and avoiding the tool-life compromises that can result from prolonged setup times.

Kiyoto Kusuda, Manager of the Sales Department at Rego-Fix, emphasizes the benefits of the PG48 toolholder: “With large or heavy pieces, setup changes can be dangerous. Consequently, process integration leads to less hazardous work and higher safety for our staff.” The PG48’s robust construction and advanced features not only enhance productivity but also contribute to a safer working environment by minimizing the risks associated with aggressive machining operations.

The PG48 toolholder is perfectly suited for industries that require high-speed, high-precision machining, including automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, agriculture, and general manufacturing. Its ability to maintain tight tolerances while increasing machining speed makes it an invaluable tool for creating high-quality threaded holes and other critical components.
